Financial inclusion, gender gaps and agricultural productivity in Mali 18/09/2025
Summary :
This paper investigates how financial inclusion and gender gaps affect agricultural productivity in Mali, a country affected by fragility and long‐standing conflicts. Using data from the 2017 LSMS-ISA household survey, the author quantifies the impact of financial inclusion on agricultural output. The findings show that financial inclusion has a positive and significant effect on productivity. However, a gender gap remains: female farmers have substantially lower productivity compared to male farmers. Across full model specifications, this gender gap ranges between 44.5 % and 49.8 %. The article offers policy recommendations aimed at enhancing access to financial services, addressing gender inequalities, and thus boosting agricultural productivity in Mali. Suggested interventions include improved financial instruments, training, and infrastructure designed for women. These findings are relevant to policymakers and financial institutions seeking to promote equitable agricultural growth.

Summary :
The article highlights the situation of women journalists in Guinea-Bissau and the specific risks they face in their profession. Conducted by the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) in December 2022, the study shows that women represent only about 20 % of media personnel in the country and frequently encounter sexual harassment, online threats, professional discrimination and organizational violence. They are often excluded from leadership positions, receive less training and protection, and confront entrenched cultural norms. The report warns of the lack of safety mechanisms tailored to their needs—both physical and digital—and calls on media organisations, unions and public authorities to adopt gender-sensitive protective measures, strengthen capacities and implement policies that explicitly address the safety of women journalists.

Summary :
This research paper explores the transformation of policies—legislative, legal, and institutional—related to gender-inclusive development across basic education, higher education, and scientific research in Côte d'Ivoire. Drawing on both primary data (interviews with key stakeholders in ministries and NGOs) and secondary sources (databases from ECOWAS, the African Union, and national ministries), the study finds that the coordinated implementation of international resolutions has significantly reduced gender disparities in basic education. While advancements are also noted in higher education, many challenges remain: lack of gender-disaggregated data, inadequate qualitative monitoring, and insufficient support for women’s progression in academic and research careers. The author concludes with actionable recommendations: enhance data collection systems, foster institutional cooperation, and elevate the status of female graduates in professional sectors to sustain gender equality gains.
