Multisectoral Surveillance Bulletin for Timbuktu and Taoudénni – No. 13, June-July 2025 25/08/2025

The Multisectoral Surveillance Bulletin for the regions of Timbuktu and Taoudénni (No. 13, June-July 2025), published by Action Against Hunger, provides updates on security, agriculture, pastoralism, and nutrition. Security incidents rose by 84%, reflecting continued armed group pressure. Early flooding of the Niger River raised concerns in riverside communities, while farming activities advanced with expanded rice and millet areas. Pasture conditions were rated from fair to poor, and livestock body conditions remained weak despite improved water access. Global acute malnutrition reached 9,177 cases in Timbuktu (+10%) and 787 in Taoudénni (down from previous months), driven by seasonal food shortages and disease. Malaria cases declined by 34% in Timbuktu but rose by 12% in Taoudénni. The report recommends strengthening access to agricultural inputs, animal vaccination, health prevention measures, and food assistance to displaced households.

Monitoring Bulletin of Supported Micro-Enterprises in the Moughataa of Bassikounou, Mauritania – March 2025 25/04/2025

This ACF monitoring bulletin presents the progress of 56 micro-enterprises supported in Bassikounou, Mauritania, under a UNHCR-funded project. Despite a fragile economic context, some positive trends are observed: improved debt repayment (88%), increased use of personal savings, and emerging financial diversification. Agriculture, livestock, and general trade prove most profitable, while solar energy remains the most vulnerable sector. However, major challenges persist: reliance on humanitarian aid, limited access to formal financing, poor business structuring, rising input costs, and client indebtedness. ACF recommends reinforced support (training, management tools, formalization, access to credit) to ensure long-term sustainability. The strong involvement of women and the growing use of community-based solutions (tontines, AVECs) are encouraging signs of economic resilience and adaptation.

Biomass Production in 2025: Analysis and Outlook for 2026 – Sahel Regional Report 17/12/2025
Summary :
This regional report by Action Against Hunger assesses vegetation biomass production in the Sahel during the 2025 growing season using satellite imagery and climatic data. It finds that the 2025 rainy season was generally normal to above average across Sahelian countries, resulting in good to very good biomass production, exceeding the 25-year average, though remaining below the exceptional levels observed in 2024. Central Sahel areas, particularly in Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger, recorded significant positive anomalies, while localized deficits persist in western Senegal, south-western Mauritania and the Lake Chad basin. In coastal countries, biomass production remains below average despite slight improvement compared to 2024. The report indicates that pastoral vulnerability for the 2026 dry season is generally low; however, insecurity, restrictions on transhumant movements and livestock concentration significantly constrain access to grazing resources, increasing the risk of early and difficult pastoral lean periods in several zones.
