Summary :
The pastoral monitoring bulletin for February–March 2025, published by ACF, VSF-B, RBM, and RECOPA, assesses the pastoral situation in Burkina Faso. This period marks the transition between the cold and hot dry seasons, with widespread drying of temporary water points and declining natural pastures, worsened by bushfires. Transhumance movements, especially toward the south, are disrupted due to ongoing insecurity, closure of pastoral corridors, and tensions with crop farmers. The body condition of livestock is fair overall, although some animal diseases have been reported. Market access remains limited in several areas, with rising food prices and deteriorating terms of trade. The security context continues to restrict movement, while the presence of internally displaced persons (IDPs) adds further pressure on already strained resources.

The Jihadist Threat in Northern Ghana and Togo 22/04/2025
Summary :
This study, conducted by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in collaboration with Promediation, analyzes the evolution of the jihadist threat in northern Ghana and Togo. It highlights the expansion of terrorist groups towards the coastal countries of the Gulf of Guinea, facilitated by the deteriorating security situation in Burkina Faso and Mali. The study examines the varying levels of threat in these West African countries and emphasizes the importance of intergovernmental approaches to counter jihadist terrorism. It is based on field research conducted by local teams and Promediation consultants in the Sahel and Gulf of Guinea regions.

Cattle rustling and insecurity in the tri-border area between Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, and Ghana 12/09/2025
Summary :
The article by Flore Berger, published by the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime in July 2025, examines cattle rustling insecurity in the tri-border region between Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, and Ghana. It shows how cattle theft has evolved into a structured criminal market used by violent armed groups such as JNIM and IS Sahel, state-aligned militias (VDP), bandits, and transnational criminal networks. Between 2022 and 2024, over 3,000 cattle were stolen in that area. Stolen cattle are laundered through regional markets—both formal and informal—and transported to major southern urban centers like Accra, Kumasi, and Abidjan. Local communities suffer: livelihoods are lost, population displacement rises, and trust in the state erodes. The article emphasises the need for cross-border cooperation, enhanced surveillance, harmonised legal frameworks, technology for cattle identification and tracing, and strengthened community resilience to address the problem effectively.

The Western Region of Mali: A New Area of Interest for Terrorist Groups 22/10/2025
Summary :
The article examines the growing influence of militant groups, especially the JNIM, in western Mali (regions of Kayes, Nioro, Diboli). After the coordinated attacks on 1 July 2025, a blockade was implemented, disrupting transport and economic flows (buses stopped, fuel tankers attacked). The Bamako–Kayes–Dakar corridor, essential for energy supply and commercial exchanges with Senegal, is now endangered. Mali is attempting to bolster its military infrastructure (including a new camp in Nioro) but struggles to maintain a lasting presence, while the terrorists favour high-impact, mobile operations rather than permanent occupation. Senegal is engaging in mixed border patrols, recognizing that the threat, although diffuse, remains real.
