Child marriage is often perceived as a protection mechanism against out-of-wedlock pregnancies, a religious obligation, or an economic survival strategy. The low educational attainment of girls and poverty exacerbate the phenomenon. The research mobilized a multidisciplinary and mixed-methods approach, involving qualitative and quantitative surveys. The authors recommend greater involvement of community actors and a change in social norms. Empowering girls through education and economic skills is essential to break the intergenerational cycle of poverty and domination.

Action Against Hunger's 2024 regional report assesses biomass production in the Sahel and West Africa. In the Madagali region of Adamawa State in northeastern Nigeria, approximately 250 people with disabilities experience severe discrimination, depriving them of access to essential services, opportunities, and humanitarian aid. This exclusion results in accumulated psychological distress, including feelings of fear and rejection. With support from the United Nations Humanitarian Fund for Nigeria (NHF) and in partnership with the Center for Advocacy, Transparency, and Accountability Initiative (CATAI), the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) implemented psychosocial support, advocacy, and awareness-raising activities to promote the inclusion of these people. Psychosocial support sessions, including psychoeducation and support groups, were organized to improve participants' emotional well-being and social integration. The DRC also provided transportation support to facilitate access to essential services. These initiatives have enabled participants to regain self-confidence and integrate more fully into the community, thus contributing to a more inclusive society in Madagali.

The report, "Humanitarian Protection in the Liptako-Gourma Region," is the result of research conducted between 2020 and 2022 by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), the Danish Refugee Council (DRC), and their local partners. This study focuses on the Liptako-Gourma region, located on the border between Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso, an area marked by a continued deterioration in security since 2015. The main objective was to assess the effectiveness of humanitarian protection programs and their interaction with local protection systems. Based on qualitative and quantitative data collected in the North and Sahel regions of Burkina Faso, Mopti in Mali, and Tillabéri in Niger, the research highlighted the complementarity between humanitarian protection mechanisms and local structures. It highlights the importance of integrating traditional protection systems to strengthen the effectiveness of humanitarian interventions.
