Micro-enterprises Monitoring Bulletin – Bassikounou, Mauritania – June 2025 08/08/2025
Summary :
In June 2025, Action Against Hunger (ACF) released a monitoring bulletin on micro-enterprises in Bassikounou, Mauritania, as part of its economic resilience program. The study assessed 50 ACF-supported micro-enterprises, mainly operating in retail trade, catering, and services. Findings indicate an average 18% increase in turnover since the previous assessment, despite ongoing challenges such as supply chain issues, rising prices, and limited product diversification. Most beneficiaries are women (72%), who report improved income and autonomy. However, reliance on local markets and low savings capacity continue to hinder the sustainability of these businesses. Arson Attacks on Schools in the Sahel: Prevention, Mitigation, and Effective Responses 08/08/2025

Cybercrime in Côte d’Ivoire in 2024: Key Findings of the ANSSI Report 18/07/2025
Summary :
The ANSSI Côte d’Ivoire’s 2024 report, by Colonel Major Guelpétchin Ouattara, highlights a sharp rise in cybercrime complaints—from 6,579 in 2022 to 12,100 in 2024 (+84%) . The most frequent incidents include violations of human dignity, online scams, identity theft, defamation, and account hijacking. Despite increased case numbers, financial losses dropped from 9.2 to 6.9 billion FCFA, due to stronger cooperation among ANSSI, banks, and cyber-defense teams. Established in October 2024, ANSSI now oversees national cybersecurity by merging CI‑CERT, the national SOC, the CLI misinformation center, and CFAD, achieving a 68% complaint resolution rate. In anticipation of the 2025 elections, ANSSI plans to enhance real-time monitoring, public awareness campaigns, civil servant training, and international cooperation to mitigate electoral cyber threats.

Prediction of Interstate Armed Conflicts in West Africa Using Artificial Intelligence Techniques 03/09/2025
Summary :
This article examines the use of artificial intelligence techniques to predict interstate armed conflicts in West Africa. Using a comprehensive dataset spanning 1981–2018 and covering 16 countries in the region, the authors tested three machine learning models: random forest, logistic regression, and decision tree. Findings indicate that the random forest model performs best (98% accuracy, 83% recall). The most relevant predictors of conflict are differences in democracy levels and shared borders, while military expenditures prove less influential. The study highlights elevated risks for certain dyads, such as Guinea–Sierra Leone and Ivory Coast–Burkina Faso. By demonstrating the effectiveness of predictive models, this research contributes to the development of early warning systems for conflict prevention. However, it also stresses the limitations due to data imbalance and the need for continuous updates to enhance forecasting accuracy.
