The article entitled “Being a girl and disabled in West Africa: The educational situation in question – Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso” by Danielle TAN, published by Handicap International in 2020, examines the educational challenges faced by girls with disabilities in these countries. He emphasizes that the absence of precise data on disability hinders the implementation of adapted educational responses. Estimates indicate that around 40% of children with disabilities are out of primary school and 55% are out of lower secondary school in low-income countries. The literacy rate for adults with disabilities is 3%, and only 1% for women. In Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso, less than 5% of children with disabilities are enrolled in primary school. Specialized structures, often located in large cities, are insufficient and expensive. In Burkina Faso, pioneering organizations have been working for inclusive education since the 1970s, but a lack of funding limits the scale of their projects. Since 2007, these countries have gradually developed inclusive education strategies, but the challenges remain numerous, particularly due to an often medical approach to disability and a lack of concrete inclusive educational policies.

The article “Youth and Countering Violent Extremism in Africa”, written by Medhane Tadesse and published by the African Security Sector Network (ASSN) in 2022, examines the radicalization of young people in Africa and their involvement in violent extremism. The article entitled “The G5 Sahel is dead, long live the Sahelo-Atlantic G7: securing development to develop security”, written by Abdelhak Bassou and published on February 6, 2025 by the Policy Center for the New South, analyzes the dissolution of the G5 Sahel and proposes the creation of a G7 Sahelo-Atlantic alliance to strengthen security and development in the region. The G5 Sahel, formed in 2014 by Mauritania, Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger and Chad, aimed to fight terrorism and promote development. However, successive coups and political differences led to the withdrawal of several members, leading to the paralysis of the organization. To remedy this situation, the author proposes forming a Sahelo-Atlantic G7 alliance which would include the initial G5 countries, Morocco and Senegal. This new alliance would aim to combine security efforts with economic development initiatives, leveraging access to the Atlantic Ocean to facilitate trade and strengthen regional cooperation.

Despite these difficulties, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) flows have not been completely deterred, particularly in the natural resources sector such as gold in Mali and Burkina Faso. The article analyzes existing contractual and conventional clauses, in particular full security protection and compensation clauses for losses, while highlighting the limits of State exemption mechanisms (force majeure, state of necessity). The study concludes that although protection mechanisms exist, their implementation in a context of instability remains mixed.
